MacKeeper 1.0.5: An all-in-one maintenance tool for your Mac. 1.0 out of 5 stars I was initially dumbfounded and amazed that a credit card company would behave so humanely Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2014 I would urge you not to install any Mackeeper software. Many users will see references to an application called MacKeeper on various web sites and via pop-ups on their browser. Not only is it expensive for what it purports to do (freeware applications that do the same or more are readily available), it can sometimes install itself without the user realising it, and it can be very tricky to get rid of. The Find & Fix feature scans all MacKeeper tools at once so you can fix all items in a click. Run Find & Fix for an all-in-one quick Mac scan: Step 1. Open MacKeeper, and select Find & Fix at the top of the left sidebar. Click the blue Start Scan button at the bottom of MacKeeper window. Wait until the scan is finished.
First things first, do you really need cleaning tools like Mackeeper?
Short answer: Yes, you do. Modern day use requires regular maintenance. And it is best to have a cleaning tool and run it every couple of weeks to remove junk from your Mac.
There has been much talk about Mackeeper on the internet lately. A lot of people criticize it while on the other hand, many actually prefer it as a mac cleaning tool. I figured I'd get a license and try it out myself.
Note: This is a long and in-depth review, here is a quick summary:
- Macs do need cleaning tools.
- Is mackeeper a scam/virus/malware? NO! The only reason it is criticized is that they advertise like crazy!
- The actual product is pretty good overall. I ended up saving a lot of storage space, freeing up some RAM and my Mac runs better overall.
- I managed to get the Mackeeper guys to offer a 20% discount for Macsumo readers. You can get the discount by clicking the button below.
And now, the detailed review of Mackeeper.
What is Mackeeper?
Mackeeper is a suite of cleaning and optimization tools for Mac.
Will it slow my Mac?
No. It actually improved my Macbook's performance. I ended up saving some storage space. The three features that I liked the most were Memory Ccleaner, Duplicates Finder, and Smart Uninstaller. Using these three I was able to free up RAM and clean up my hard drive to save space.
Is Mackeeper a scam?
Let's define “scam” first. Here's the Oxford Definition:
A dishonest scheme; a fraud:
Now, Mackeeper is not a fraud. It does exactly what it says on the tin. It's cleaning utility and it does clean junk from your Mac.
I didn't notice any performance issues after installing Mackeeper on my Macbook Air 2013 (Note to self: Time to upgrade the machine).
Hands-on Review:
On to the hands-on review of Mackeeper v3.11.3 on macOS Sierra v10.12:
Download and Installation:
After getting the license key, I downloaded Mackeeper from their download page.
Installation is pretty simple. Open the pkg file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Here is how the main window looks:
There are a bunch of tools to select from the left sidebar. Let's try them one by one.
Memory Cleaner:
My Macbook Air has 4 GB of RAM, and I do give it a run for its money with all the apps I have open simultaneously. I managed to free up almost 25% RAM using the Memory Cleaner tool as can be seen in the screenshots below.
Duplicates Finder:
One of the most useful features of Mackeeper is the Duplicates Finder. If you download a lot of stuff from the internet and move it around a lot, chances are you might have a few duplicate files sitting on your hard drive. It doesn't make much difference if the files are of small size (like in my case) but de-duping can free up some storage if the duplicate files are bigger in size e.g. video files, ISOs, etc.
Smart Uninstaller:
Another useful feature. In case you're not already aware, just deleting the app file does not uninstall that app from your Mac. There are leftover files that need to be removed too. This is where the Smart Uninstaller tool comes in handy.
I didn't uninstall any application from my Mac using it, but it is a pretty simple tool that will remove the leftover files when you choose to uninstall an application through it.

Files Recovery:
This module can recover the files you've removed from your hard drive.
When you press the scan button, it will take a bit of time to perform a full scan. I stopped it after a few minutes, and it told me it could recover a few files. I didn't need the files, though, so I didn't give recovering those files a try.
Its a useful feature if you don't back up your data using Time Machine or Dropbox etc. In case you lose your data, you can recover the files using this tool.

Data Encryptor:
Not all users need to hide data on their hard drive, but for those who do, this tool is pretty handy. Here's how it works:
- You set up a password at first use.
- You can then ‘log in' to the Data Encryptor tool and view your hidden files and unhide them.
Personally, I'm the only user of my Macbook Air, so I don't need to hide any files. In case you share your Mac with someone else and need to hide personal files, you could use this.
Login Items:
You can use this tool to add/remove programs to your startup. Pretty simple.
Disk Usage:
If you have a lot of files on your Mac, there may be some large files that are no longer needed. This module scans your hard drive and tells you which file/folder is taking how much space so you can decide whether or not you want to keep it there. I suck at file management and keeping things clean so this is a pretty useful feature for me.
Default Apps:
Again, a pretty simple tool to change the default apps for various file types.
Fast Cleanup:
Fast Cleanup is another useful feature. The tool scans your Mac for junk files and gives you the choice of deleting them right within the Mackeeper interface. I performed a quick scan, and it found 1.2GB of junk files on my hard drive.
As you can see, these files include binaries, cache files, logs, localizations, etc. You can safely delete them to free up some space on your Mac. I recommend running it and cleaning your mac every week.
Shredder:
If you've got some files that you permanently want to delete without leaving the possibility to recover them using some data recovery software, you can use the Mackeeper Shredder to “shred' them. Just select a file, and it will delete/shred it permanently. Comes in handy sometimes.
How much does Mackeeper cost?
As I said at the beginning of this review, you can download mackeeper for free by clicking this link or on the button below.
If you like it and decide to buy it, there are 4 plans to choose from. Here's the price rundown of each plan:
I've actually bought the 2-year plan because personally because I like the tool and the 2-year plan is the best value for money (who doesn't like saving money?).
1 month: $14.95/month billed every month
6 months: $9.94/month $59.64 billed every 6 months
1 year: $7.95/month i.e. $95.40 billed every year
2 years: $4.95/month i.e. $118.80 billed every 2 years

You can avail the discount by clicking the button below.[/vc_column_text]Dear Apple Tech Talk; I recently came across an ad on-line for a product called MacKeeper. I installed it on my MacBook Pro and so far it is working OK but a friend of mine said they tried it and had a lot of problems with it but could not uninstall it. Now I’m scared that I have some dangerous program on my Mac. Is MacKeeper some sort of Malware? Is there any way to completely uninstall this software?
Anyone who uses a Mac and goes on the Internet has probably come across a Pop-Up ad or extra browser window, telling you that your Mac is running slow and you need MacKeeper to “clean” it. For many people, these ads are little more than an annoyance. They ignore the ad and move on. Some people follow the suggestion and download a trial version of MacKeeper and are basically happy with their decision. Still others complain that their Mac doesn’t run as smoothly as before they installed MacKeeper and want to remove it from their computers but don’t know how.
What is MacKeeper?
Let us say up front that we do not consider this application malware as we do not think the intention of the developers is to harm anyone’s computer intentionally or worse, steal your personal information.
MacKeeper is from Kromtech Alliance, an IT investment and development company based in Cologne, Germany (they maintain a U.S. office in New Orleans, Louisiana). MacKeeper is a utility program that combines sixteen (16) processes intended to optimize your Mac’s operation and performance.
On the market since 2010, MacKeeper offers a 30-day trial of the software but after that, you need to pay a monthly fee to unlock the full potential of the software. Pricing plans start at $14.95 on a month-to-month basis and go as low as $5.95 per month for a 2-year commitment.
Should You Buy It?
If you search the Internet, you will find a fairly even split between people who love MacKeeper and those that warn to stay away from it at all costs.
It is not our intention to review the merits of the software here, nor are we making a recommendation to use it or not other than to say, we do not have it installed on our Macs. We’ll leave you to make your own decision.
That said, the original question was how to completely uninstall MacKeeper from your system and here’s our suggestion.
How to Uninstall It
Before you can uninstall MacKeeper, you need to quit the application but you may notice that the Menu bar icon does not have a Quit function. To remove the icon from the menu bar, launch the MacKeeper app in the Applications folder. Click on the MacKeeper menu and then select Preferences. Select the General tab and uncheck the box for “Show MacKeeper icon in menu bar.” Stacks (rapidweaver plugin) 3 6 0 download free.
Now you can quit the application.
Next, drag the MacKeeper.app file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator’s password. Enter it and the application will move to the Trash and a window will pop up and offer to uninstall the rest of its components.
Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. This should remove most of the files but unfortunately, not all of them.
A MacKeeper Helper folder still exists. To find it, you will need to look in the hidden User Library. To access this Library folder, hold down the Option key and, in the Finder, choose Go > Library.
Navigate to: ~/Library/Application Support.
Look for the Application Support for the MacKeeper Helper folder and move it to the Trash (if it is there).
Other than the Helper folder, the uninstaller does a good job of removing the application. However, if you are concerned that there are still some files left behind, there are a few more areas within the User Library that you can check. If any of these files still remain, you should move them to the Trash.

Be sure to empty your Trash and restart your Mac and MacKeeper should be completely removed from your system. Kodak preps 8 0 0 download free.
